Sports medicine does not happen in a legal vacuum. The Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation follows the court decisions, malpractice questions and liability issues that shape how athletic trainers and team physicians practice, and shares commentary and source material with member programs.
Topics of ongoing interest include the duty of care owed to the student-athlete, clinical practice guidelines and medical malpractice, emergency response and catastrophic-injury litigation, and the documentation that protects both the athlete and the clinician. Related material is collected in the Legal and Case Law section of the Resource Library and within the Center for Team Physicians.
