Athletic Training Abroad
Italy Spring Break Trip
The Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation is offering an "Athletic Training Abroad" trip to Italy that will combine historical and cultural experiences as well as sports medicine experiences during your tour throughout Italy including Naples, Isle of Capri, Pompeii, Rome and Florence.  Experience Italy with athletic training students from other universities.  This trip was influenced by Nova Southeastern University's study abroad program developed by Dr. Patricia McGinn.

Celebrate National Athletic Training Month Italian / Roman Style.

  











Space is limited to the first 40 students per week.  Faculty are welcome to attend.


March 6 - March 14, 2010



Trip Agenda

Day 1, Saturday (Depart USA): 

Depart your city of choice  to JFK International Airport where you will meet your Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation Representatives.

PM Depart JFK for an overnight flight to Rome (Roma), Italy  with dinner and breakfast served aloft.

Day 2, Sunday (Rome, Naples, Isle of Capri, Naples):

AM Arrive in Rome, Italy.  Our Tour Director and your Group Leaders will meet you at the airport and transfers us to our hotel in Naples, (Napoli), Italy.

This afternoon's sight-seeing includes an Orientation tour of the City of Naples and then we board the Ferry for an excursion to the Isle of Capri.  We ascend the funicular to the Piazzetta in Capri Town to enjoy a walking tour which will include breathtaking views.  This evening we return to Naples for overnight and jour our Tour Director and Group Leader for Dinner provided by the Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation.

Day 3, Monday (Naples, Pompeii, Florence):

7:00AM - Breakfast in Hotel

8:00AM - Check out of Hotel and Depart to Pompeii for a half day guided visit through the ancient city of Pompeii prior to its destruction from Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.  Visit a 1st century physicians home and learn about medical practices in Pompeii. 

After a lunch break, we continue our drive north to the Cradle of the Renaissance, Florence

Day 4, Tuesday (Florence):

8:00AM - Breakfast in Hotel

9:00AM - The morning enjoy a walking tour which includes the Piazza della Signoria, the multicolored marble Duomo, St. John's Baptistery with the Bronze Doors 'Gates of Paradise' and the Church of Santa Croce and Museum. 

Day 5, Wednesday (Florence, Pisa, Rome):

7:30AM - Breakfast in Hotel

8:15AM - The day begins in Florence with guided visits to both the Uffizi Gallery
and the Academy of Fine Arts which houses 'David' by Michelangelo
This afternoon we depart Florence for Rome, along the drive south we
stop at the Square of Miracles to view the amazing Leaning Tower of Pisa
Time for a photo-op, before continuing our journey to Rome. 

Day 6, Thursday (Rome):

8:00AM - Breakfast in Hotel

This morning, we enjoy a City Orientation Tour including the famous sights, monuments, fashionable Piazzas and Ancient ruins to include The University Institute of Motor Sciences,Piazza Navona, the Roman Forum, Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Colosseum.

Day 7, Friday (Rome):

7:30AM - Breakfast in Hotel

8:00AM - It's an early start this morning as we enjoy a guided tour, including audio system, of the Historical Museum of Medical Art, Vatican Museum (Vatican Museum Web Site) and the Sistine Chapel with its magnificent frescoes 'The Last Judgement' painted by Michelangelo.  Next is an unforgettable visit to the St. Peter's Square and the Basilica.



Day 8, Saturday (Rome):

8:00AM - Breakfast in Hotel

Morning activity to be announced with balance of day at leisure.

6:30PM - Meet for Dinner

7:30PM - Farewell Dinner (Included)

Day 9, Sunday (Departure to New York):

6:30AM - Depart for Airport

9:00AM - Depart  Rome International Airport for flight home.


Trip Cost to Include the Following:

- Air Transportation: Round trip airfare from New York's JFK to Rome, Italy

- Airport Transfer: Round trip airport transfers to and from your hotel

- Meals: Seven buffet breakfasts and two Three-course dinners

- Porterage Service: 1 suitcase person in and out of hotel

- Sightseeing: Admissions and Entrance Fees per the itinerary

- Hotel Accommodations: First Class lodging based on double occupancy, in the event traveling as an individual, same sex roommates will be assigned

- Services: Tour Director and Motorcoach including local guides

- Insurance: Travel Guard Vacation Protection Insurance

Cancellation:

Outside of 95 days prior to departure - $200 per person + Insurance + applicable airline fees

95 - 46 days prior to departure - $300 per person + Insurance + applicable airline fees

45 - 22 days prior to departure - 35% of total cost + Insurance + applicable airline fees

21 - 8 days prior to departure - 50% of total cost + Insurance + applicable airline fees

7 - 1 days prior to departure - 75% of total cost + Insurance + applicable airline fees

Day of departure - 100% of total cost + Insurance + applicable airline fees













Travel Requirements: A Passport valid through 6 months past your re-entry into the United States is required for travel on this itinerary, U.S. Citizens are not required to have an Entry Visa. Foreign Nationals should consult with their Embassy for Entry Requirements. Travel Participants are solely responsible for compliance to these regulations.
