Athletic Training Study Abroad - Greece
Spring Break 2009
The Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation is offering an "Athletic Training Abroad" trip to Greece that will combine historical and cultural experiences as well as sports medicine experiences during your tour through out Greece including Athens, Nauplia, Olympia, Delphi and Kalambaka.  Experience Greece with athletic training students from other universities. 

Celebrate National Athletic Training Month Greek Style.


  











Space is limited to the first 40 students per week.  Faculty are welcome to attend.

Trip Agenda

Day 1, Saturday (Depart USA): 

Depart your city of choice  to JFK International Airport where you will meet your Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation Representatives.

TBD Depart JFK for an overnight flight to Athlens, Greece with dinner and breakfast served aloft.

Day 2, Sunday Arrival - Athens, Greece:

Our Tour Director and your Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation Group Leader will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel in Athens, the Divani Palace Acropolis.  Then there is time to unwind and relax, and this evening we will enjoy a Welcome Dinner hosted by CSMF and your Tour Director in the lively Plaka district.

Day 3, Monday (Athens Sightseeing):

Our sightseeing tour includes the Acropolis, the Parthenon, views of the Agora where Socrates taught, the Royal Palace, the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch and the stadium built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. 

Day 4, Tuesday Nauplia:

Today we drive to the bridge across the Corinth Canal.  We visit the remains of the ancient Greek Canal.  We visit the remains of the ancient Greek city of Corinth, before reaching Mycenae, to see the Treasury of Arteus, the Beehive Tombs, Lion Gate and the remains of the Agamemnon's Roval Palace.  Then onto the Sanctuary of Aesculapius, God of Medicine, where we visit the Amphitheatre.  Finally to Nauplia for dinner and overnight at the Hotel Amalia.

Day 5, Wednesday Olympia:
Todays drive takes us through the rugged mountains of Arcadia en route to Olympia,
where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C.  Balance of the day at leisure. 
Overnight at the Hotel Amalia.


Day 6, Thursday Olympia and Delphi:
Today we will see where the first Olympic Games were held. Time to stroll around the ancient stadium and the Temple of Zeus and Hera. We board our ferry from Patras to mainland Greece. We drive to Delphi on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, home of the Oracle. Overnight in Delphi at the Amalia Hotel.


Day 7, Friday Delphi:
This morning in Delphi youll walk the Sacred Way to the Sanctuary of Apollo. Then over the
Pourmaraki Pass to Lamia and on to Kalambaka for overnight and dinner at our Hotel Amalia.


Day 8, Saturday Meteora:
This morning you travel to the incredible monasteries of Meteora. Here you will visit
two of the monasteries. Then a scenic drive along the coast of Thermopylae returning to
Athens for your final evening and overnight at the Hotel Divani Palace Acropolis.

Day 9, Sunday (Departure to New York): This morning you bid farewell as you are transferred
to the airport for your return transatlantic flight. You arrive home the same day.

Trip Cost to Include the Following:

- Air Transportation: Round trip airfare from New York's JFK to Athens, Greece

- Airport Transfer: Round trip airport transfers to and from your hotel

- Comprehensive Travel Insurance by Travel Guard International

- Meals: Seven breakfasts and five dinners

- Porterage Service: 1 suitcase person in and out of hotel

- Sightseeing: Museum Entrance Fees  plus transportation to and from the sight

- Hotel Accommodations: Based on double occupancy, in the event traveling as an individual, same sex roommates will be assigned

- Services: Tour Director and Motorcoach including local guides


Registrations are still being accepted.  Note that there may be a price difference for the air portion of the trip.  Complete payment will be due by January 16, 2009.

2nd Payment, November 14, 2008 = $575
Final Payment, December 12, 2008 = $575


Cancellation:

89 - 65 days prior to departure - $300 per person + $100 Administrative Fee

64 - 22 days prior to departure - 35% of total price

21 - 8 days prior to departure - 55% of total price

7 - 1 days prior to departure - 80% of total price

Day of departure - 100% of total price

Revision Fees - $50 for the Land Arrangement and $100+ for the Airline Ticket

Travel Requirements

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. Passport for travel and re-entry to the United States.  Passports must be valid through 9/29/09.  It is the responsibility of the attendee to inquire and obtain the necessary travel documents.  Failure to comply with these requirements is solely the the responsibility of the participant.
