Center for College and University Sports Medicine Special Populations
The Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation – Center for College and University Sports Medicine Pre-Participation Exams and Special Populations would address such areas to identify student-athletes at risk for athletic participation and subsequently provide guidelines to assist the clinician in the monitoring and care of identifiable conditions.  This center would address best practices and recommendations as to the pre-participation exam including frequency, physician specialties, screening practices and recommendations, medical history forms, liability, cost and administrative components.  A multidisciplinary assessment of inclusions for the collegiate student-athlete pre-participation exam with special interest to areas aimed at preventing catastrophic loss such as cardiac screening, serum testing, dental, vision, concussion baseline assessments, etc.,  The goal would be to identify what is currently taking place on the college campus and as well as best practice guidelines to determine a optimal standard of care. 

Subsequent to the screening process is the monitoring of conditions acceptable for athletic participation yet need for precaution and medical oversight throughout the career and life span of the student-athlete.  Such conditions shall include but not limited to the following:  Asthma, Diabetes, Sickle Cell, Pregnancy, Anemia, Hemophilia, Marfan Syndrome and others. This division would identify practice guidelines for the treatment of such conditions as well as guidelines for disqualification when uncontrolled circumstances arise.
